Kidney scam: 5 more doctors held

The investigations in the kidney scam widened on Thursday with the police detaining at least five doctors at different places in north India. Some of them, according to the police, are likely to be arrested by Friday. This was the outcome of the raids conducted by Moradabad police at several places in Haryana, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, UP, J&K and Delhi on Thursday.

Some of the doctors being questioned were named by accused Upender Kumar Aggarwal. Speaking to Times City , SSP Prem Prakash said that "Upender named some doctors, claiming they were Amit Kumar's aides. We are trying to establish their involvement. There are others though whose involvement is certain and they can be arrested as early as Friday."

With the Gurgaon police too probing doctors and checking records of hospitals, laboratories and medical centres to establish if they had any links with the kidney scam, alarm bells have started ringing in NCR medical circles.

On Thursday, there were rumours of Moradabad police teams visiting a few Delhi hospitals and diagnostic centres, including Batra Hospital, Apollo Hospital, Focus Diagnostics in Green Park and Mamta Maternity Hospital in Malviya Nagar. All hospitals denied raids had been carried out and that they had any role to play in the racket.
