Believe you me this is not as easy or as simple as many people (and many Doctors) will tell you. Anxiety and panic is frequently allied to depression and it is well known that this can be a very difficult cure. In many cases it can be a difficult diagnosis.

Anxiety and panic attacks are said to be the most common mental illness in the U.S. There they split it into 5 anxiety 'disorders' that are identified as: Panic Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Phobias.

It is alleged that many famous celebrities, scientists and leading politicians suffered from chronic anxiety and panic attacks. Winston Churchill, Abe Lincoln, Nicholas Cage and Barbara Streisand to name a few. You are in very good company.

Anxiety and panic cannot simply be cured by sheer force of will. That said; there are certainly steps you can take to relieve the symptoms and help cure anxiety and panic attacks.

Don't suppress fearful thoughts; never force them away because when you least expect it they will return with a vengeance! Challenge your fears, learn to 'ride the waves' of panic and anxiety. Know that ultimately they will go away. Your thoughts are not physical, they are simply thoughts and you must understand that. You have the power to change your thoughts.

Think of a "thought" as a real live entity for just minute. Picture that thought as a small tree or flower. Pull it up and burn it and its gone. Learn how to do this and use it with your anxiety and panic attacks. You have a tool to fight panic attacks. It got to the stage where I would feel the anxiety and panic attack starting. I learnt to welcome it, to enjoy! The minute I welcomed the anxiety and panic attack it would start to fade into the background. OK not all the time but enough that I began to feel in control again. Fear is good Fear is welcome.

Looking across the internet any cures or partial cures for anxiety and panic attacks seem very expensive with price tags near the hundred dollar mark. This may be usual to the American market but coming from the UK we are used to getting our healthcare at a much lower cost (free in most cases).

The use of medication to treat anxiety and panic attacks is very controversial. Drugs can be helpful on a short-term basis, but, the problem with taking tranquilizers for longer periods is that they have the potential to become addictive.

Finally, if you can, stay busy. If you are busy you don't have time for anxiety and panic attacks.
