Chiropractic is a profession always under criticism for one thing or another and under attack from one direction or another. It is comical at this point in time.
With a little introspection, however, it might be that this is brought about by the professionals themselves.
The orientation of the majority of practices is primarily personal injury, i.e., workers compensation and auto injury cases.
It seems as though that the majority of people who utilize chiropractic under these cases, do so primarily for monetary gain and/or because they do not have to pay for it.
Very few people I have spoken with who have previously used chiropractic under personal injury cases said they would use Chiropractic again, unless they were involved in another personal injury case. Very few people I have spoken with who are currently using chiropractic under personal injury cases said they will continue with chiropractic care once their case is finished.
Quite bluntly, I have little respect for those involved in personal injury, et. al.
I believe that it is this tolerance of accepting personal injury cases that cheapens the chiropractic profession and lends to its tarnished reputation among many people and other professions.
To add insult to injury to the profession, most Chiropractors attempt to add every possible type of new non-Chiropractic therapy to their practices in order to increase the amount billed to insurance companies in order to increase revenues from insurance companies.
Another sad fact is the first and primary topic of conversation between Chiropractors when they meet: how many patients they see each week or what kind of revenues they are generating each month.
Finally, after 16 years in practice, I really just could not tolerate it any longer. So finally, I stepped out of practice.
In retrospect, and, with introspection, I understand why I always felt like I was on a different level from it all, like a square peg trying to fit into a round hole. I was not into personal injury cases. I was not focused on numbers and revenues.
I was coming from 360° in the opposite direction! I was on a different level!
