Anti Aging Skin Care - Top Lifestyle Choices to Help You Age Gracefully

It's as simple as always - take good care of yourself and make good choices and your skin will reward you as it ages.

To age well, it's important that you follow some basic anti aging principles of a clean life. These include a good diet, avoidance of sun, good skin care, drinking plenty of water and not smoking.

Diet

True, it always comes back to diet. What you eat plays an important role in how your skin looks as it ages. Eat a diet full of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein.

When you eat a healthy diet, your skin benefits because it gets nourished well; as your skin ages, it naturally loses moisture, but feeding it a diet rich in nutrients that are also rich with moisture properties goes a long way toward keeping your skin supple and smooth as it ages.

Eating a diet full of antioxidants (found in those fruits and vegetables) will also help your skin fight the effects of exposure to the elements and free radicals, which seek to destroy your skin. Antioxidants fend off the attack of the free radicals.

Avoid the sun

The sun is killer to the skin, and not just in the form of skin cancer. It helps to create wrinkles, age spots and an overall "leather" look to the skin that makes you look older. A lot older.

This doesn't mean you should stay in the house, covered in sunblock all the time. It does mean that you should limit your sun exposure (avoid "sunning" yourself without proper protection) and you should always wear a good quality sunblock when you do go out.

Other tips for avoiding the sun are wearing sunglasses, hats and sitting under umbrellas when on the beach or at the park.

After a day in the sun, do apply a good quality moisturizer to help replace some of the moisture that the sun takes away.

Good skin care

Good skincare also means good diet and avoiding sun, but it also means treating your skin well. You should cleanse your skin with a high-quality cleanser (though that doesn't necessarily mean expensive) that's appropriate for your skin type. Follow with a good quality moisturizer or wrinkle cream.

To keep your skin young looking, you should also exfoliate it regularly. Exfoliating means nothing more than using a more abrasive than normal cleanser so that you remove the top layer of skin. That layer gets dried out with old, dirty skin cells. When you remove that top layer of skin, you reveal the fresher, younger skin underneath. And that is how you can instantly look younger. Regularly removing this layer of skin also helps your skin to rejuvenate itself, which slows the aging process.

Drink plenty of water

Water helps to nourish and freshen up our skin. It cleanses us from the inside out and helps to keep your skin fresh and youthful looking.

Experts have mixed opinions about how much we should be drinking, but at least 64 ounces a day is ideal. That should be enough, they say, to help restore the youthful luster of the skin.

With a few small changes and a few easy efforts, you can have a big impact on the quality and condition of your skin as it ages. You can keep it younger and healthier looking than you ever imagined.
